- Tenth Chief
- Lachlan was to strengthen his families ties with the Campbells of Argyll by marrying Argyll's sister, Catherine, as his second wife. But Catherine failed to produce an heir for Lachlan and in frustration he abandoned her on a rock he knew would be submerged at high tide. Luckily she was spotted by some passing fishermen and returned to her brother, who Lachlan had prematurely informed of her death. Lachlan was later stabbed to death in his bed on a visit to Edinburgh in 1523. The rock, now known as The Lady Rock, can be seen from the castle at low tide.
